The morning will be open to anyone who needs help, to finish quilts for the show. These can be personal quilts or charity quilts. April 2008-Group 2: Marlene Oswood, Mandy Meierotto, Jeanne Moorehead, Ruth Ward, Millie Shroeder, Marilyn Harrington, Vivien Bugbee & Betty Neel, will be there to assist you. Any other members, who wish to help, please come and bring your time, talents and good cheer to share. It may be a good idea to bring pliers, yarn, scissors and a large needle for tying charity quilts if necessary. We will have potluck at noon!
The afternoon will consist of general meeting and tying up loose ends for the show that will be set up 2 days later. Please plan to attend so that we can have another successful quilt show! Thanks all!
2008 Quilt Show The Heritage Continues
April 12th & 13th, 2008 Sat 10-4PM & Sun Noon -4

Friday April 11th at 4PM will be set up time.
There is room for 84 large quilts in the main show room! We will use the top railings again for ABC quilts and will use the Linus quilts to fill in where needed. If you have any ABC or Linus quilts in the makings, please get them finished for the show. Some Habitat quilts will also be displayed. Clothing and small quilts will be hung in the Boutique Room. A-frames will be available for the small quilts.
We need your antique quilts for the bed turning. Make sure you have them registered and with a short story for each one. A photo will be taken with your permission, of each antique quilt. A booklet will be made containing these quilts. Please bring your antique quilt to the Wednesday meeting along with your story or description if possible! This helps Kelsey out very much!
REGISTRATION! It is very important that you know that April 9th is the last day to register your quilt/s. No other quilts will be allowed into show after this day. We need to respect Mandy’s hard effort to type out all of the cards for show quilts. At set up, quilts need to arrive between 4pm-6pm, PLEASE!
We need accessories to put at the feet of all the quilt hangers. Please register your items by meeting and bring your goodies to set up on Friday.
Door Prizes! Yes! It’s not too late! If you have any door prizes please bring these to Dixie by Wednesday meeting. She needs time to sort and get the prizes ready. If you have fat quarters, pencils or any sewing related items, these are welcome. More
Boutique! If you are planning on selling any SEWING related item/s in the Boutique you are welcome to do so. You need to get a registration sheet from Phyllis Wright or Mary Ann Johnson for your items. All items need to have a string tag with your name, item number and price. (For example: #1 pillow $10 Jenny). Please keep your prices closest to the dollar or quarter. If you need string tags some are available.
If you have quilt magazines, bundle these with one price. If you have quilt books you may put sticky price labels on the fronts with the same info as string tags. However if you can tape a string tag to them it would be easier for the Boutique Ladies to deal with because all sold item tags will be included with your sales money and item sheet.
If you have several small items, box or bag these up and price them as one item. 10% of your sales will be donated to the NIQG. You will be responsible to pay 7% taxes to the state of Iowa. A tax number will be provided for you along with a form to send in. Do not forget to send this in whether you sell anything or not. Items donated to the Boutique for sale will be accepted. Any presales need to be discussed with Phyllis and Mary Ann!
If by Sunday you have items still not sold you may tell Phyllis and Mary Ann to lower the prices if you do not want to take that item back home. If you do have items left, these need to be picked up immediately at the end of show! If you do not pick up your items, they will be donated to the NIQG and be given as door prizes to members.
Everyone is expected to purchase 12 tickets at the cost of $10. You may keep these for yourself or sell them and ask for more! If you have not picked up your tickets yet, do so now! The ticket money funds the guild for 2 YEARS! Please do your part! Sell tickets!

Lost! At the last meeting Dorothy Birch was accidently shorted 50 squares and strips. If you found that you have too many then please bring them to Dorothy or Laurie.
Laurie will be providing extra squares and strips for anyone who needs them. The amounts given so far are more than enough to create the May project with. A final trade will be in May. This would be a great time to retrade some of your squares and strips for a true scrappy quilt if you so choose to do so!
Lottery this month will be Flowery Fat Quarters! Each fat quarter gives you more chances to win!
Block of the month! This month’s block is called Centennial! Making this fast paced block in blue/peach stripe, blue solid, floral print and a white background will make a lovely summer quilt!
Same Swap Switch blocks were traded successfully! Well, not quite successful, as we thought! Lost! Margaret McMullin’s blocks were picked up for her and accidently migrated to someone’s stash! If you have her blocks please bring them to her or Laurie! We do tend to be forgetful when we are having a good time! Thank you!

Morning workshop on making a "Window Pane vest" by Nancy Malmin.
Cathy Knowles, V.P. opened the afternoon meeting.
Carlene Davis talked about the quilt show; reviewed forms available, boutique, prioritizing quilts to enter, if more than one. Set-up will begin at 4 pm on Fri. April 11. Slumberland will supply a bed frame to be used for "bed - turning " at the show. There will be a Linus and ABC quilt display along the balcony railing. Door prizes will be given to the public attendees - if any are leftover, they will be given to members at the next guild meeting. Drawing for the raffle quilt will be on Sunday afternoon. Members are encouraged to take bookmarks and posters today to publicize in their communities.
A committee was formed to begin work on the 2010 raffle quilt design. Margaret McMullin and Betty Neel volunteered for that, if anyone else is interested, please contact one of them.
The nominating comm. - Cathy K. and Jeannie Moorhead - are taking volunteers for next years' officers and board members. Norma Jean M. and Marlene O. have vol. so far.
Dixie reminded everyone of the North Iowa Fair in July - the building is now A.C.! The guild will be giving prizes for judged quilts as last year for fair entries..
Ruth Calland brought fabric kits to take home and make caps for cancer patients. Bring completed ones to April meeting.
The "Chinese Auction" winners were: Nancy M. Marilyn M., Mary Ann Johnson, Minerva Wagner (2), and Jean Payne.
Marilyn Meinecke gave two prizes to Marge Bahnsen and Darlene Alexander.
Laurie S. talked about the fabric trading squares and showed samples. The meeting concluded with "Show and Tell" followed by social time.

Board Meeting March 25th
Officers for 2008-2009 have been found with the exception of Vice-President. Still need confirmation of chairpersons.
Carlene made a motion to accept memberships at half-rate until fall. The motion was seconded by Ruth. Motion carried without opposition.
Quilt Show Chair, Carlene Davis, reported that everything is in place. We still need a few more volunteers for different jobs, especially quilt registration and check out. Also for bed turning. The school will be open at 9 am both Saturday and Sunday for last minute works before public arrives. We will need hammers and step ladders. Tax id for those selling in boutique will be shared. Each vendor must have their own along with Social Security number.
Quilts must be dropped off between 4 & 6 pm on Friday. No quilts to be accepted after 6 pm. Quilts must be picked between 4-6pm on Sunday. We will not be responsible for quilts after 6 pm. If you cannot be there to pick up you must send someone to pick up your quilt. Otherwise they will be left in the locked school until Monday morning for you to pick up from the school.

East Iowa Quilt Network (we have been members apparently for many years) is now charging $5.00 a year for membership. This will be put before membership for vote. Next meeting in Kalona, April 5, 2008.
Also in Kalona on April 5th, is Illinois-Iowa Quilt Study Group meeting. The study theme is “Appliqué Through the Centuries.”

“Quilt of Holes” sent to me by Carlene Davis
As I faced my Maker at the last judgment, I knelt before the Lord along with all the other souls.
Before each of us laid our lives like the squares of a quilt in many piles; an angel sat before each of us sewing our quilt squares together
into a tapestry that is our life.
But as my angel took each piece of cloth off the pile, I noticed how ragged and empty each of my squares was. They were filled with giant
holes. Each square was labeled with a part of my life that had been difficult, the challenges and temptations I was faced with in every day
life. I saw hardships that I endured, which were the largest holes of all.
I glanced around me. Nobody else had such squares. Other than a tiny hole here and there, the other tapestries were filled with rich color
and the bright hues of worldly fortune. I gazed upon my own life and was disheartened.
My angel was sewing the ragged pieces of cloth together, threadbare and empty, like binding air.
Finally the time came when each life was to be displayed, held up to the light, the scrutiny of truth. The others rose; each in turn, holding up their tapestries. So filled their lives had been. My angel looked upon me, and nodded for me to rise.
My gaze dropped to the ground in shame. I hadn't had all the earthly fortunes. I had love in my life, and laughter. But there had also been
trials of illness, and wealth, and false accusations that took from me my world, as I knew it. I had to start over many times. I often
struggled with the temptation to quit, only to somehow muster the strength to pick up and begin again. I spent many nights on my knees in prayer, asking for help and guidance in my life. I had often been held up to ridicule, which I endured painfully, each time offering it up to
the Father in hopes that I would not melt within my skin beneath the judgmental gaze of those who unfairly judged me. And now, I had to face the truth. My life was what it was, and I had to accept it for what it was.
I rose and slowly lifted the combined squares of my life to the light.
An awe-filled gasp filled the air. I gazed around at the others who stared at me with wide eyes.
Then, I looked upon the tapestry before me. Light flooded the many holes, creating an image, the face of Christ. Then our Lord stood before me, with warmth and love in His eyes. He said, "Every time you gave over your life to Me, it became My life, My hardships, and My struggles.
Each point of light in your life is when you stepped aside and let Me shine through, until there was more of May all our quilts be threadbare and worn, allowing Christ to shine through!

From the President
Quilt Show date is fast approaching and I’m getting all revved up for it. How about you? Have you got your quilt ready to display? Are you signed up for a committee and have they been meeting yet? Have you sold any tickets? Have you picked up your tickets?
The New meeting place at First Covenant Church is working out great! We did a lot of sewing in January and made a lot of decisions. One of them was that we would no longer expect our group members to make extra food. Instead we will keep the deserts out and at 3 pm everything is put away.
Our web site is getting a face lift so if you have internet access you should take a look. There is a new pattern from my studio in this month’s newsletter. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Kelsey
February Workshop by Carolyn Matson will be ‘Aprons’ from the Calico Hutch in Minnesota just west and south of Austin. 9AM-Noon.
Please come prepared to sew by 9AM.
Doors are open at 8AM.
You will need to purchase 2 (homespun or other type) towels that are at your local quilt shop. Or Carolyn will bring some with her. A sample was shown at January’s Meeting by Kaye Klukow. The towels need to be cotton, not terry cloth.
You need your sewing machine and general sewing equipment such as cutter and cutting board, ruler, scissors and etc. Irons will be provided.
We will be sewing in the meeting room where the tables and chairs are already set up. If you have a power strip to share please bring it!
Group 3 will be responsible to help Carolyn carry her things in and set her up. They also will help man the sign in table and help out with the Chinese Auction items. As was discussed last month there will be no more luncheon due the large potluck at noon. However there will be cookies or some dessert with coffee available till 3PM. Carolyn will have a program in the afternoon showing new things in her shop.
Come join us for Potluck at noon! Bring along a dish to share.
You will need your own table service.
We will have our general meeting at 1PM.
January Charity yielded another productive day with 25 quilts made! These quilts were then finished at the Senior Center. We have added 10 ABC quilts and 14 Linus quilts and 1 wheel chair quilt to our list to donations. 3 quilts were donated for Comfort quilts and 2 quilts were donated for Habitat!
We thank everyone for their time and talents!

All quilt show meetings will be the last Tuesday of each month prier to show, held at the Senior Citizen’s Center located at 326 4th St NE in Mason City (423-1502). It is located just west of East Park. All ‘Chairs’ and interested members are welcome and encouraged to attend. It takes all members to put on a successful show!
There will be a committees’ sign up sheet at the welcome table each month. Please sign up your name to the committee/s that you would like to help in. Each committee has a booklet to use as a guide to that particular job. All jobs can and should be done by more than one person. We all need to work together!
Note to new members: If you don’t know where you would like to help just ask any of the ‘old’, ok I mean, ‘seasoned’ members for assistance or Carlene. There is a place for you!

Secretary's Minutes:
Meeting opened at 1:15 pm
1. Discussion was held on subject of: Do we want to do food vending if Newman School does not. Discussion revealed our insurance may not allow us to do so and School may not allow us to do so. Carlene will check on these. If all is a go and School does not want to vend, popular vote was positive.
2. Unanimous vote to continue with fairgrounds one more year as it is now airconditioned.
3. Door prize letters were sent out. Request for fat quarters to give out as door prizes went out.
4. Laurie talked about swaps for February.
5. Jenny reported comfort quilt blocks are available to take home.
6. jeanne reported that fourteen spaces have been rented to venders.
7. Those that want to sell their quilts either at Quilt show or st Fair you need to attch a business card to the quilt (and give extras to Dixie) so these can be given to interested onlookers. They cannot be sold at show or at fair, but, interested persons can contact makers at home to arrange a sale.
8. Discussion about Late Luncheon was held with lively participation. Unanimous vote was to allow food from early lunch to be left out until 3 pm for those interested. At 3 pm they will be removed.

Now here is a recipe that Joan Chandler has graciously shared with us!
Another Chocolate Crinkles recipe from
Iowa Farms Today magazine.
1 cup cocoa
3 beaten eggs
1 1/2 cup sugar
¾ cup vegetable oil
2 t. vanilla
2 cups flour
2 t baking powder
½ cup powdered sugar
In large bowl, beat together first five ingredients with spoon. In medium bowl stir together flour and baking powder. Gradually add to chocolate mixture until well blended. Cover and chill 1-2 hours or until firm enough to handle. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Shape dough into 1 inch balls. Roll in powder sugar and pace on greased cookie sheet. Bake 10-12 minutes. Do not over bake or cookies will be dry.

THE SACK COULD BE FILLED WITH FEATHERS AND DOWN FOR A PILLOW,
OR T'WOULD MAKE A NICE SLEEPING GOWN.
IT COULD C ARRY A BOOK AND BE A SCHOOL BAG,
OR BECOME A MAIL SACK SLUNG OVER A NAG.

Window Pane Vest Preparation for March 12th, 2008 Workshop being taught by Nancy Malmin!
Please forgive me for not getting the total of all the first part pre-instructions in last newsletter. Jenny
December Pre-class instruction: do this first-
Find a shirt-buy it one size larger than what you would normally wear.
Wash the shirt before you cut.
Wash you materials before you start to cut.
Look for 9 fat quarters or scraps to equal 2 ¼ yards. You will need a glue stick!
Need contrasting material 2 ½” x 5 yards for binding-set this aside.
2 or 4 buttons 5/8 or7/8 in size.
Water soluble marker and ruler.
Cut sleeve off (including the finished seam)
If shirt has full collar-cut off the collar only, leaving the stand.
Take off pocket-do not cut pocket off.
Take off buttons-do not cut buttons off.
Cut off finished side seams both sides.
Length-measure from back of neck to favorite length, plus 2” for hem and mark it.
Sew the back pleat flat all the way down so that it is flat against back.
To hem, (if the shirt has it) to make the 4 side edges of the vest round, I use a 9” dinner plate to mark it and cut it.
Need to mark your cut up shirt, on right side of shirt starting at the middle of the back neck, draw a center line first. Continue working to outer edges at 4” intervals. Repeat for front. Try to match at shoulders.
Mark front horizontal lines at 5” intervals. Try to match across the front working from top shoulders down towards hem.
January Pre-class instruction:
9 fat quarters-you can cut from one fat quarter eight 3 ½” x 4 ½” rectangles and eight 2 ½” x 3 ½” rectangles and eight 1 ½” x 2 ½” rectangles
You need a total of:
72- 3 ½” x 4 ½” rectangles
72- 2 ½” x 3 ½” rectangles
72- 1 ½” x 2 ½” rectangles
You can stack these three high-one piece of each size using glue stick to keep them together.
February Pre-class instruction:
If you have not already stacked your precut rectangles this is the time to do so.
Start with the 3 ½” x 4 ½” rectangle on the bottom.
Next put the 2 ½” x 3 ½” rectangle on top of the 3 ½” z 4 ½’ rectangle.
Place the 1 ½” x 2 ½” rectangle on top of the 2 ½” x 3 ½” rectangle.
Using a dab of glue will help hold these in place or use stick pins.
You will need 72 piles of the 3 piece units assembled.
Pre-arrange your piles on back of shirt wit glue stick or pins.
One set of 3 piece unit in each of 4” x 5” marked rectangle.
There should be about 1/4” border of shirt color showing between the largest fabric rectangle and the marked rectangle.
In March you will need your sewing machine, matching thread for top and bottom. We will be sewing the stacks onto the shirt. Also will be sewing binding onto the stand of collar and the binding to the rest of the shirt and buttons. Questions? From the President
Quilt Show date is fast approaching and I’m getting all revved up for it. How about you? Have you got your quilt ready to display? Are you signed up for a committee and have they been meeting yet? Have you sold any tickets? Have you picked up your tickets?
The New meeting place at First Covenant Church is working out great! We did a lot of sewing in January and made a lot of decisions. One of them was that we would no longer expect our group members to make extra food. Instead we will keep the deserts out and at 3 pm everything is put away.
Our web site is getting a face lift so if you have internet access you should take a look. There is a new pattern from my studio in this month’s newsletter. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Kelsey
February Workshop by Carolyn Matson will be ‘Aprons’ from the Calico Hutch in Minnesota just west and south of Austin. 9AM-Noon.
Please come prepared to sew by 9AM.
Doors are open at 8AM.
You will need to purchase 2 (homespun or other type) towels that are at your local quilt shop. Or Carolyn will bring some with her. A sample was shown at January’s Meeting by Kaye Klukow. The towels need to be cotton, not terry cloth.
You need your sewing machine and general sewing equipment such as cutter and cutting board, ruler, scissors and etc. Irons will be provided.
We will be sewing in the meeting room where the tables and chairs are already set up. If you have a power strip to share please bring it!
Group 3 will be responsible to help Carolyn carry her things in and set her up. They also will help man the sign in table and help out with the Chinese Auction items. As was discussed last month there will be no more luncheon due the large potluck at noon. However there will be cookies or some dessert with coffee available till 3PM. Carolyn will have a program in the afternoon showing new things in her shop.
Come join us for Potluck at noon! Bring along a dish to share.
You will need your own table service.
We will have our general meeting at 1PM.
January Charity yielded another productive day with 25 quilts made! These quilts were then finished at the Senior Center. We have added 10 ABC quilts and 14 Linus quilts and 1 wheel chair quilt to our list to donations. 3 quilts were donated for Comfort quilts and 2 quilts were donated for Habitat!
We thank everyone for their time and talents!

All quilt show meetings will be the last Tuesday of each month prier to show, held at the Senior Citizen’s Center located at 326 4th St NE in Mason City (423-1502). It is located just west of East Park. All ‘Chairs’ and interested members are welcome and encouraged to attend. It takes all members to put on a successful show!
There will be a committees’ sign up sheet at the welcome table each month. Please sign up your name to the committee/s that you would like to help in. Each committee has a booklet to use as a guide to that particular job. All jobs can and should be done by more than one person. We all need to work together!
Note to new members: If you don’t know where you would like to help just ask any of the ‘old’, ok I mean, ‘seasoned’ members for assistance or Carlene. There is a place for you!

Secretary's Minutes:
Meeting opened at 1:15 pm
1. Discussion was held on subject of: Do we want to do food vending if Newman School does not. Discussion revealed our insurance may not allow us to do so and School may not allow us to do so. Carlene will check on these. If all is a go and School does not want to vend, popular vote was positive.
2. Unanimous vote to continue with fairgrounds one more year as it is now airconditioned.
3. Door prize letters were sent out. Request for fat quarters to give out as door prizes went out.
4. Laurie talked about swaps for February.
5. Jenny reported comfort quilt blocks are available to take home.
6. jeanne reported that fourteen spaces have been rented to venders.
7. Those that want to sell their quilts either at Quilt show or st Fair you need to attch a business card to the quilt (and give extras to Dixie) so these can be given to interested onlookers. They cannot be sold at show or at fair, but, interested persons can contact makers at home to arrange a sale.
8. Discussion about Late Luncheon was held with lively participation. Unanimous vote was to allow food from early lunch to be left out until 3 pm for those interested. At 3 pm they will be removed.

Now here is a recipe that Joan Chandler has graciously shared with us!
Another Chocolate Crinkles recipe from
Iowa Farms Today magazine.
1 cup cocoa
3 beaten eggs
1 1/2 cup sugar
¾ cup vegetable oil
2 t. vanilla
2 cups flour
2 t baking powder
½ cup powdered sugar
In large bowl, beat together first five ingredients with spoon. In medium bowl stir together flour and baking powder. Gradually add to chocolate mixture until well blended. Cover and chill 1-2 hours or until firm enough to handle. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Shape dough into 1 inch balls. Roll in powder sugar and pace on greased cookie sheet. Bake 10-12 minutes. Do not over bake or cookies will be dry.

New Home for North Iowa Quilters Guild!
The North Iowa Quilters Guild has moved to the First Covenant Church located on Hwy 18/122 on the East end of town. The address is 410 S. Ohio. It is south, across the street from St. James Lutheran church. It is A-framed in shape. There is a large parking area in back of church. The entrance to use is the south east door. There is a sidewalk that curves around to that door. We hope to have a sign visible for members to see. We will have use of their kitchen, kitchenette and meeting area. There is plenty of room for workshops and programs. The new rent will be $50 a month. Come join us for fun, fellowship and of course quilting!

2. Cut 50 1 1/2 by 8 1/2 inch strips---using different fabrics

3. Place 10 different squares and 10 different strips in 5 zip lock bags
4. Pin your name on a paper to the zip lock bag

We wish to thank Minerva, for selling raffle tickets at the Fox River Sock Sale in Osage. I believe that over $200 worth of tickets were sold. There will be a prize of a $100 bundle of fabrics to the person who sells the most tickets. (Compliments of Kelsey Jones)

Raffle Tickets are available! Everyone is expected to purchase 12 tickets at the cost of $10. You may keep these for yourself or sell them and ask for more! We need a big ticket sale this year as the ticket money funds the guild for 2 YEARS! Please do your part! Sell tickets! Thank you ladies!

Quilt Show meeting is November 27, 2007 at 10AM. All quilt show meetings will be the last Tuesday of each month prier to show, held at the Senior Citizen’s Center located at 326 4th St NE in Mason City (423-1502). It is located just west of East Park. All ‘Chairs’ and interested members are welcome and encouraged to attend. It takes all members to put on a successful show!
There will be a committees’ sign up sheet at the welcome table each month. Please sign up your name to the committee/s that you would like to help in. Each committee has a booklet to use as a guide to that particular job. All jobs can and should be done by more than one person. We all need to work together!
Note to new members: If you don’t know where you would like to help just ask any of the ‘old’, ok I mean, ‘seasoned’ members for assistance or Carlene. There is a place for you!

North Iowa Quilters Guild-November 14th, 2007
A morning workshop by Jenny Schlutz, ‘Quilt as you go’ Black Bear Valley tote was presented. A potluck lunch followed. The meeting was called to order at 1PM by Pres. Kelsey Jones. Five guests were introduced.
Marie Senne was presented a gift of past president as well as a ‘Comfort Quilt’ following recent heart procedure. Kelsey announced today is ‘moving day’. We will move NIQG books, bookcase, kitchen items, etc. to First Covenant Church location. There will be a sign on door to direct everyone for the next meeting.
Carlene Davis reported on quilt show preparations. There are still jobs to sign up for as well as the Boutique. Raffle tickets are available to pick up today. The raffle quilt was completed by Minerva Wagner and was on display. Members were asked about locations of guild’s lock box.
Discussion was held on possible program by Diane Kuck. Clarification of charges etc. members voted not to accept. Kelsey talked about request from Ohio quilter for 2 ½” signature blocks. ‘Chinese Auction’ winners were: Dorothy Birch, Sue Hanson, Dorothy Fagerly, Nancy Malmin, Kay Klukow and Marie Senne!
A follow up report given by Marie on Masonic’s offer to have NIQG members do an inventory job which was declined. Cathy Knowles talked about December Christmas meeting. The serving group will provide table service. There will be mini lessons and surprises. Each member are to bring potluck dish and Christmas ornament to exchange. The meeting will begin at 10 AM.
Ruth Calland asked for interested person to make and donate diaper bags for ‘Foster Care Program’. She showed an example of one and said that patterns will be available in Dec and Jan. Door prize won by Kay Klukow.
Reminder about April ’08 meeting-there will be no program-it will be quilt show finalizing. Afternoon program was given by Barb Neils about ‘Peace House’ Tanzania. Afternoon closed with show and tell and lunch. Jo Best, Sec.

A Quilter’s Dream come true!
‘Twas the night before Christmas,
And the quilts were not made.
The threads were all tangled, the cookies delayed.
The stocking weren’t hung, the pantry was bare.
The poor weary Quilter, was tearing her hair.
Stacks of fat quarters, tipped over in streams.
Visions of Log Cabins, had turned into dreams.
When what to her wondering eyes should appear,
But a bus full of quilters with all of their gear.
They went straight to work with just a few mutters,
Sorting and stitching and brandishing cutters.
The patterns emerged from all of the clutter,
Like magic the fabrics arranged in a flutter.
Log Cabins, Lone Stars, Flying Geese & Bear Tracks
Each quilt was a beauty-even the backs.
Her house how it twinkled, her quilts how they glowed.
The cookies were baking, the stockings were sewed.
Their work was all done, so they folded their frames,
And packed up their needles, without giving their names.
They boarded the bus, and checked the next address.
More quilts to be made, another quilter in distress.
She heard one voice echo, as they drove out of sight,
Happy quilting to all and to all a good night!

New Home for North Iowa Quilters Guild!
The North Iowa Quilters Guild has moved to the First Covenant Church located on Hwy 18/122 on the East end of town. The address is 410 S. Ohio. It is south, across the street from St. James Lutheran church. It is A-framed in shape. There is a large parking area in back of church. The entrance to use is the south east door. There is a sidewalk that curves around to that door. We hope to have a sign visible for members to see. We will have use of their kitchen, kitchenette and meeting area. There is plenty of room for workshops and programs. The new rent will be $50 a month. Come join us for fun, fellowship and of course quilting!

A Quilter’s Dream come true!
‘Twas the night before Christmas,
And the quilts were not made.
The threads were all tangled, the cookies delayed.
The stocking weren’t hung, the pantry was bare.
The poor weary Quilter, was tearing her hair.
Stacks of fat quarters, tipped over in streams.
Visions of Log Cabins, had turned into dreams.
When what to her wondering eyes should appear,
But a bus full of quilters with all of their gear.
They went straight to work with just a few mutters,
Sorting and stitching and brandishing cutters.
The patterns emerged from all of the clutter,
Like magic the fabrics arranged in a flutter.

Each quilt was a beauty-even the backs.
Her house how it twinkled, her quilts how they glowed.
The cookies were baking, the stockings were sewed.
Their work was all done, so they folded their frames,

‘Quilt as You Go’ Black Bear Valley Tote
Come join us for a fun morning in creating a ‘quilt as you go tote’! Be ready to sew by 9AM.
Things you will need to create your tote:
Note: I used Homespun fabrics for the inside and outside of tote. For the actual tote, you may use whatever fabrics that suit your tastes! A plain piece of flannel, works best in place of thin batting. This can be anything you don’t want to see any more! It will be covered! For the appliqués you may need a machine that has at least a zig-zag stitch on it. Or you may blanket stitch by hand.
-wof-means width of fabric.
Backing (inside tote): 25” x wof.
Flannel (batting): 25” x wof.
Strips: (outside tote & handles): 28-30 2” strips.
Binding (for handles & tote opening): three 2” x wof strips
Black Bear: 9” x 15” rectangle.
Star: 7” x 7” square.
Pine Tree: 5” x 18” rectangle.
Fusible paper or sketch paper for needle turn.
Sewing machine, iron, rotary cutter, board & general sewing supplies.
Note: If you do not have sketch paper or fusible paper I will bring some for you to use.
Class is free to members other than purchasing a pattern or kit. Cost of pattern is $7 or kits which includes pattern & everything (except fusible) you need is $23. Kit only is $16. If you have not reserved your kit, you must call ahead 641-424-9068. As of this writing there are 2 left.
I have 2 new patterns just out this past week. One is called ‘Freedom’ Something to Crow About and Little Red Barn. Exciting news from President Kelsey Jones!
I am excited to tell you all that the board has found a New Home for North Iowa Quilters Guild!
Change of our new ‘Meeting Place’ will take effect on December 12, 2007. Due to rising costs from $60 a month to $100 a month, we have had to search for a new home. The Masonic Temple has been the home of NIQG for many years. We are thankful for the use of their facility. It has been a wonderful place to meet, but no longer cost effective.
The North Iowa Quilters Guild will be moving to the First Covenant Church located on Hwy 18/122 on the East end of town. The address is 410 S. Ohio. It is slightly west and across the street from St. James Lutheran church. It is A-framed in shape. There is a large parking area in back of church. The entrance to use is the south east door. We hope to have a sign visible for members to see.
We will have use of their kitchen and meeting area. There is plenty of room for workshops and programs. The new rent will be $50 a month. Moving day will take place at the end of November’s luncheon. We will need your help to transport the library and any other things that belong to us. Jenny will bring a cart and Mandy is providing a truck for the library holder. We will need some sturdy boxes for the books & etc.
Please plan to at least help load up vehicles before you leave. If you help with the move, it will give you an opportunity to see our new home! Thanks everyone for all your help! We hope all of you will continue to enjoy our upcoming workshops and programs!

Is your quilt in UFO status?
Good Lord Girl! Why isn’t that quilt finished? What is it that makes one quilt, from beginning to end, get done in one week and another quilt barely gets off the drawing board…and ends in the empty drawer for all eternity….did I say empty drawer? Oh come on now. We all know there is no such thing! That drawer is probably busting out all over with other neatly folded UFOs that didn’t quite get to the sewing machine.
Maybe one reason that particular quilt did not get to the sewing machine is that it was not thought out quite like you would have wanted to. Maybe it was a pattern too difficult to make quickly or your colors just didn’t mesh how you had planned. Or maybe you didn’t plan at all and grabbed what ever you had in your stash. Sometime those make great scrappy quilts with the right pattern. And sometimes you end up with dogs (no pun intended with 4 footed dog lovers-I am a dog lover myself). What ever the reason, it is time to open that drawer and take stock of what you have attempted.
If you have more than 5 UFOs…ok let’s get real here…25 UFOs, it is time to take them out one at a time and really decide if you are going to finish it. If after 5 minutes of scoping out the blocks and you cannot say “Yes I will take it right to my machine and get these blocks together now”…then it is time to pass that project along to someone who will see it and say “Wow! I love it! I cannot wait to get it together and quilted!”
If you take out that UFO and see it for the first time in years, and say to yourself “Wow I forgot I had this! I love it! I cannot wait to get it together and quilted!” Then get with it Girl! Get that quilt finished and out on a bed or hanging on a wall or better yet give it as a gift to your loved one or sell it! It is not doing you any good sitting in a drawer!
Maybe your UFO is only in the ‘haven’t cut it out yet’ stage but have the pattern with it. Check out the fabric. Lay it out in a well lit room and put the pattern next to it or on the fabric. Ask yourself “Do I still want to make this quilt using this pattern or should I put the uncut fabric with my stash for another project?” If the answer is yes I want to make this quilt…take that fabric immediately to the cutting board and get those blocks together just as fast as you can and you will have a quilt top in no time! To heck with the family dinner!
The next logical step would be to take it to the ‘Long Armers’ or quilt it yourself. If the answer is “No” then you know what to do with it. Oh no I don’t mean put it with your stash…It may never get used again and maybe it is time to take it to a flea market and sell it to your quilting friends! I am sure someone will fall in love with the fabric and eventually it will become a quilt! Plus it will give you money in which to buy more fabric that you will really love for your next project. And I don’t mean a UFO!
Ok, after going through all and I do mean ‘all,’ your UFOs, you should have a pretty good idea of just what you can finish and what you will not. Don‘t every feel guilty about your decisions! That is plain silly! Whether you keep your UFOs or not someone will finish that quilt whether it is in the next week or the next 50 years.
One tip that you might want to include in with the UFO, that is leaving the drawer for another quilter, is put any info that you would like with the blocks or fabric that made it special for you in the beginning. Maybe you could add your thoughts as to why you bought the fabric and pattern in the first place. What ever information you add to the UFO that is moving into another home will be a really cool thing for the quilter’s tag on the back of your finished UFO!

Diaper Bags Needed for Foster Children!
Corine Sills, who works with the Foster Care Program, along with Al Yad, need your help. The organization is in desperate need of diaper bags that can be left with the children when they are placed into foster care.
If you would like to help with filling this need contact Ruth Calland or Kelsey Jones for the pattern. When the bags are completed, contact Ruth Calland at (641)583-2006 and she will pick them up, if needed, and deliver them to Corine Sills for the children. Thank you in advance for the children. Ruth
Pinning two 1” strips parallel on one end of your ironing board will be a great way to keep your binding strip that you are pressing in control by simply feeding the binding strip under the 1” strips!

Show and Tell!
Carlene Davis brought a beautiful Iris wall hanging done with reverse appliqué, 2 ABC quilts and a Patriotic charity quilt. Sue Hansen presented her exciting Brown Bag Quilt. Jan Pralle showed off her queen sized Thimbleberries Garden quilt. Kathy Coverdale went crazy and finished several quilts- a really cute UFO pink chicks, Christmas skirt, pumpkins with sitting cat, 3 table runners and a log cabin with leaves! Whew is that girl every busy! Lenore Forbes showed her wonderful aprons and a wool project with pumpkins. Vivien never makes anything small! She brought a wonderful green 3” blocks scrappy nine patch quilt and her green and purple 4-patch posies! Marlene Oswood showed off her very cute & colorful Snowman quilt. Marilyn Meinecke brought a few items as well and showed us place mats, small log cabin, and pumpkin wall hanging. Thank you girls for sharing your projects with us. We hope to see these quilts at our upcoming quilt show!

Quilt Show meeting is November 27, 2007 at 10AM. All quilt show meetings will be the last Tuesday of each month prier to show, held at the Senior Citizen’s Center located at 326 4th St NE in Mason City (423-1502). It is located just west of East Park. All ‘Chairs’ and interested members are welcome and encouraged to attend. It takes all members to put on a successful show!
There will be a committees’ sign up sheet at the welcome table in October. Please sign up your name to the committee/s that you would like to help in. Each committee has a booklet to use as a guide to that particular job. All jobs can and should be done by more than one person. We all need to work together!

Meeting called to order at 1 PM by Pres. Kelsey Jones. New member Mary Boyd was announced. Jenny Schlutz, reviewed plans for serving groups’ revision to begin March 2008. In case a meeting needs to be cancelled, the president will notify the first name on the group list and she in turn will notify members of that group.
Kelsey brought patterns from NIACC’s quilt day, made available free to all. Minerva Wagner announced a bus trip sponsored by Cedar Valley Quilters on Sat. Oct 27th. Seat are still available for $25.00.
Raffle tickets for quilt show quilt will be available to pick up at the Nov. meeting. Members are expected to purchase $10.00 jacket.
Chinese Auction winners were: Jean Payne, Kelsey Jones x2, Ruth Ward and Cathy Coverdale. Carlene reminded everyone to sign up for quilt show committees. The quilt show meetings will combine with the board meetings on the last Tuesday of each month at the Senior Citizens Center. The next meeting will be Oct. 30th at 10 AM.
Door prize was won by Cathy Coverdale. Laurie Schwarck gave directions for swap squares to be put into baggies. She offered block challenge project and had sign-up.
Next month’s workshop will be making a quilt as you go tote bag by Jenny Schlutz. On going projects from morning’s paper piecing workshop were shown.
Once again we had an awesome show and tell. Following meeting, member enjoyed shopping at ‘Flea Market’ and a delicious lunch.

Habitat for Humanity
Several Habitat Homes are in the works and seem to get done very close to each other. Jo Best will need more quilts soon. Here is a variation of the traditional Log Cabin Block with an appliquéd heart. With the heart in the center of each block it will make for a very warm quilt. If you would like to make some blocks for her please feel free to make as many as you want. When appliquéing the heart to the center of block please machine it down or hand stitch the edges. It also does not matter which way the heart is facing whether it is upside down or sideways! Also the instructions say to use Debbie Mumm fabrics. You do not have to use that unless you want. You just need to use light and darks so that there is a contrast. Thank you to everyone who makes the blocks! Jo Best

‘Quilt as You Go’ Black Bear Valley Tote
Come join us for a fun morning in creating a ‘quilt as you go tote’! Be ready to sew by 9AM.
Things you will need to create your tote:
Note: I used Homespun fabrics for the inside and outside of tote. For the actual tote, you may use whatever fabrics that suit your tastes! A plain piece of flannel, works best in place of thin batting. This can be anything you don’t want to see any more! It will be covered! For the appliqués you may need a machine that has at least a zig-zag stitch on it. Or you may blanket stitch by hand.
-wof-means width of fabric.
Backing (inside tote): 25” x wof.
Flannel (batting): 25” x wof.
Strips: (outside tote & handles): 28-30 2” strips.
Binding (for handles & tote opening): three 2” x wof strips
Black Bear: 9” x 15” rectangle.
Star: 7” x 7” square.
Pine Tree: 5” x 18” rectangle.
Fusible paper or sketch paper for needle turn.
Sewing machine, iron, rotary cutter, board & general sewing supplies.
Note: If you do not have sketch paper or fusible paper I will bring some for you to use.
Class is free to members other than purchasing a pattern or kit. Cost of pattern is $7 or kits which includes pattern & everything (except fusible) you need is $23. Kit only is $16. If you have not reserved your kit, you must call ahead 641-424-9068. As of this writing there are 2 left.
I have 2 new patterns just out this past week. One is called ‘Freedom’ Something to Crow About and Little Red Barn. I will be bringing my Jenny Penny Designs patterns and kits for sale for you to browse through. These will be available until end of meeting day. Thank you ladies! Now let’s have some fun!

Exciting news from President Kelsey Jones!
I am excited to tell you all that the board has found a New Home for North Iowa Quilters Guild!
Change of our new ‘Meeting Place’ will take effect on December 12, 2007. Due to rising costs from $60 a month to $100 a month, we have had to search for a new home. The Masonic Temple has been the home of NIQG for many years. We are thankful for the use of their facility. It has been a wonderful place to meet, but no longer cost effective.
The North Iowa Quilters Guild will be moving to the First Covenant Church located on Hwy 18/122 on the East end of town. The address is 410 S. Ohio. It is slightly west and across the street from St. James Lutheran church. It is A-framed in shape. There is a large parking area in back of church. The entrance to use is the south east door. We hope to have a sign visible for members to see.
We will have use of their kitchen and meeting area. There is plenty of room for workshops and programs. The new rent will be $50 a month. Moving day will take place at the end of November’s luncheon. We will need your help to transport the library and any other things that belong to us. Jenny will bring a cart and Mandy is providing a truck for the library holder. We will need some sturdy boxes for the books & etc.
Please plan to at least help load up vehicles before you leave. If you help with the move, it will give you an opportunity to see our new home! Thanks everyone for all your help! We hope all of you will continue to enjoy our upcoming workshops and programs!

Is your quilt in UFO status?
Good Lord Girl! Why isn’t that quilt finished? What is it that makes one quilt, from beginning to end, get done in one week and another quilt barely gets off the drawing board…and ends in the empty drawer for all eternity….did I say empty drawer? Oh come on now. We all know there is no such thing! That drawer is probably busting out all over with other neatly folded UFOs that didn’t quite get to the sewing machine.
Maybe one reason that particular quilt did not get to the sewing machine is that it was not thought out quite like you would have wanted to. Maybe it was a pattern too difficult to make quickly or your colors just didn’t mesh how you had planned. Or maybe you didn’t plan at all and grabbed what ever you had in your stash. Sometime those make great scrappy quilts with the right pattern. And sometimes you end up with dogs (no pun intended with 4 footed dog lovers-I am a dog lover myself). What ever the reason, it is time to open that drawer and take stock of what you have attempted.
If you have more than 5 UFOs…ok let’s get real here…25 UFOs, it is time to take them out one at a time and really decide if you are going to finish it. If after 5 minutes of scoping out the blocks and you cannot say “Yes I will take it right to my machine and get these blocks together now”…then it is time to pass that project along to someone who will see it and say “Wow! I love it! I cannot wait to get it together and quilted!”
If you take out that UFO and see it for the first time in years, and say to yourself “Wow I forgot I had this! I love it! I cannot wait to get it together and quilted!” Then get with it Girl! Get that quilt finished and out on a bed or hanging on a wall or better yet give it as a gift to your loved one or sell it! It is not doing you any good sitting in a drawer!
Maybe your UFO is only in the ‘haven’t cut it out yet’ stage but have the pattern with it. Check out the fabric. Lay it out in a well lit room and put the pattern next to it or on the fabric. Ask yourself “Do I still want to make this quilt using this pattern or should I put the uncut fabric with my stash for another project?” If the answer is yes I want to make this quilt…take that fabric immediately to the cutting board and get those blocks together just as fast as you can and you will have a quilt top in no time! To heck with the family dinner!
The next logical step would be to take it to the ‘Long Armers’ or quilt it yourself. If the answer is “No” then you know what to do with it. Oh no I don’t mean put it with your stash…It may never get used again and maybe it is time to take it to a flea market and sell it to your quilting friends! I am sure someone will fall in love with the fabric and eventually it will become a quilt! Plus it will give you money in which to buy more fabric that you will really love for your next project. And I don’t mean a UFO!
Ok, after going through all and I do mean ‘all,’ your UFOs, you should have a pretty good idea of just what you can finish and what you will not. Don‘t every feel guilty about your decisions! That is plain silly! Whether you keep your UFOs or not someone will finish that quilt whether it is in the next week or the next 50 years.
One tip that you might want to include in with the UFO, that is leaving the drawer for another quilter, is put any info that you would like with the blocks or fabric that made it special for you in the beginning. Maybe you could add your thoughts as to why you bought the fabric and pattern in the first place. What ever information you add to the UFO that is moving into another home will be a really cool thing for the quilter’s tag on the back of your finished UFO!

The Center is located just west of East Park on 326 4th St N E in Mason City. This will be held in conjuncture with the Quilt Show meeting. Everyone is encouraged to attend these meetings as we need all of you to have a successful guild and quilt show!
Diaper Bags Needed for Foster Children!
Corine Sills, who works with the Foster Care Program, along with Al Yad, need your help. The organization is in desperate need of diaper bags that can be left with the children when they are placed into foster care.
If you would like to help with filling this need contact Ruth Calland or Kelsey Jones for the pattern. When the bags are completed, contact Ruth Calland at (641)583-2006 and she will pick them up, if needed, and deliver them to Corine Sills for the children. Thank you in advance for the children. Ruth
Pinning two 1” strips parallel on one end of your ironing board will be a great way to keep your binding strip that you are pressing in control by simply feeding the binding strip under the 1” strips!

Trading Squares: Please trim the selvedges before cutting.
1. Cut-50 6”X 6” squares
2. Place ten squares of different blues in each of 5 zip lock bags labeled with your name
3. Cut-50 strips 1 ½”x 8 ½”
4. Place ten strips of different blues in each of 5 zip lock bags labeled with your name
5. Place your bags in the swap bag located at the sign in area, the swap gal will swap the fabric and have these ready at the end of the day.

Show and Tell!
Carlene Davis brought a beautiful Iris wall hanging done with reverse appliqué, 2 ABC quilts and a Patriotic charity quilt. Sue Hansen presented her exciting Brown Bag Quilt. Jan Pralle showed off her queen sized Thimbleberries Garden quilt. Kathy Coverdale went crazy and finished several quilts- a really cute UFO pink chicks, Christmas skirt, pumpkins with sitting cat, 3 table runners and a log cabin with leaves! Whew is that girl every busy! Lenore Forbes showed her wonderful aprons and a wool project with pumpkins. Vivien never makes anything small! She brought a wonderful green 3” blocks scrappy nine patch quilt and her green and purple 4-patch posies! Marlene Oswood showed off her very cute & colorful Snowman quilt. Marilyn Meinecke brought a few items as well and showed us place mats, small log cabin, and pumpkin wall hanging. Thank you girls for sharing your projects with us. We hope to see these quilts at our upcoming quilt show!

Quilt Show meeting is November 27, 2007 at 10AM. All quilt show meetings will be the last Tuesday of each month prier to show, held at the Senior Citizen’s Center located at 326 4th St NE in Mason City (423-1502). It is located just west of East Park. All ‘Chairs’ and interested members are welcome and encouraged to attend. It takes all members to put on a successful show!
There will be a committees’ sign up sheet at the welcome table in October. Please sign up your name to the committee/s that you would like to help in. Each committee has a booklet to use as a guide to that particular job. All jobs can and should be done by more than one person. We all need to work together!
Note to new members: If you don’t know where you would like to help just ask any of the ‘old’, ok I mean, ‘seasoned’ members for assistance or Carlene. There is a place for you!

Meeting called to order at 1 PM by Pres. Kelsey Jones. New member Mary Boyd was announced. Jenny Schlutz, reviewed plans for serving groups’ revision to begin March 2008. In case a meeting needs to be cancelled, the president will notify the first name on the group list and she in turn will notify members of that group.
Kelsey brought patterns from NIACC’s quilt day, made available free to all. Minerva Wagner announced a bus trip sponsored by Cedar Valley Quilters on Sat. Oct 27th. Seat are still available for $25.00.
Raffle tickets for quilt show quilt will be available to pick up at the Nov. meeting. Members are expected to purchase $10.00 jacket.
Chinese Auction winners were: Jean Payne, Kelsey Jones x2, Ruth Ward and Cathy Coverdale. Carlene reminded everyone to sign up for quilt show committees. The quilt show meetings will combine with the board meetings on the last Tuesday of each month at the Senior Citizens Center. The next meeting will be Oct. 30th at 10 AM.
Door prize was won by Cathy Coverdale. Laurie Schwarck gave directions for swap squares to be put into baggies. She offered block challenge project and had sign-up.
Next month’s workshop will be making a quilt as you go tote bag by Jenny Schlutz. On going projects from morning’s paper piecing workshop were shown.
Once again we had an awesome show and tell. Following meeting, member enjoyed shopping at ‘Flea Market’ and a delicious lunch.

Habitat for Humanity
Several Habitat Homes are in the works and seem to get done very close to each other. Jo Best will need more quilts soon. Here is a variation of the traditional Log Cabin Block with an appliquéd heart. With the heart in the center of each block it will make for a very warm quilt. If you would like to make some blocks for her please feel free to make as many as you want. When appliquéing the heart to the center of block please machine it down or hand stitch the edges. It also does not matter which way the heart is facing whether it is upside down or sideways! Also the instructions say to use Debbie Mumm fabrics. You do not have to use that unless you want. You just need to use light and darks so that there is a contrast. Thank you to everyone who makes the blocks! Jo Best

It is with great anticipation that I look forward to the next year with all of you. We have so many exciting things happening. Our new officers and new committee members have more new ideas they are just itching to share with you.
With our quilt show just nine months away we really need to start getting things done to be ready for a really big show. We are going to have a separate juried section for those who would like to compete in a juried program. This is really good for learning what improvements we can focus on to become even better quilters than we already are. Sometime in the next few months I will ask Jenny to rerun the article on what the judges look for in quilts.
With the wild weather we have been getting lately I have been trying to check up on those in the paths of flooding and mudslides. So far everyone has been fine. However, that brings me to the thought that if anyone finds themselves in the middle of something and can use help, pick up a phone and let us know. Quilters are like family and we are here to help each other.
We will be having a board meeting this month and I would like those involved with the quilt show to attend. It will be at 11 am so we can enjoy our lunch in the “big room.” We will try to make it short and sweet. If you have any thoughts or problems to bring to the meeting please do so.
Meanwhile stay safe and think quilty thoughts.

We need hand quilters. Please volunteer or say yes when asked. The quilt will be displayed finished or not at the September Fiber Arts Festival at South Bridge Mall in Mason City on Sept. 29th. We need help to sell tickets that day.
Members who have graciously appliquéd the blocks are: Cathy Knowles-Cut Glass Dish, Bev Adams-Wreath #3, Jenny S & Kaye Klukow-Wreath #2, Jeroldine Stricker-Mary Jane Compote, Margaret McMillan-Wreath #4, Mandy Meierotto-Classical Urn, Dorothy Fagerle-Basket of Bluebirds, Marion Andersen-Wreath #1 & Bev Humphrey-Dove & Dogtooth. The top and bottom borders were appliquéd by Marie Senne and the side borders were appliquéd by Jenny Schlutz. The saw tooth borders were made by both Marie and Jenny. Markers were Carlene Davis and Kelsey. Basters were Jenny, Mary Ruth Calland and Kelsey.

Remember that wonderful Peach Cream Pie at our annual picnic? Well here is the recipe! Thanks Audrey!
Fresh Peach Creme Pie
3/4 c. flour 3 T. butter, melted
1/2 tsp. salt 3 fresh peaches peeled
1tsp.bkg. powder and sliced
1pkg.vanila pudding mix 1 8 oz. pkg. cr. cheese
regular, not instant 1/2 cup sugar
1egg 1 T. fruit juice or milk
1/2 cup milk dash of nutmeg or cinnamon
Mix together flour, salt, baking power, pudding mix, egg, milk and butter. Pour into an oiled nine or ten inch pie pan. Cover this batter with sliced peaches. Stir together sugar, cream cheese and fruit juice or milk. With a large spoon or spatula, place large globs of cream cheese mixture on top of peaches. Sprinkle nutmeg or cinnamon on top. Bake 35 minutes at 350 degrees. Chill before serving. Enjoy! Audrey
Recipe for Taco Bars
Large cookie sheet. Spread 2 large croissants cans on sheet. Bake till done. Flatten any poofed areas with spatula. Spread Cream cheese mixture made up of 2 pkgs of cream cheese and chipotle seasoning to your taste. Next spread one can of refried beans. Sprinkle some mild taco sauce over this layer. Then add your favorite ingredients. I used onion, green and red peppers, black olives, fresh diced tomatoes and cheddar cheese. You can add shredded lettuce or anything in your fridge that suits you! Trading Patches--This quilt was in the McCall's quilting Aug. 2007 magazine. I was asked to use this for a quilt project. We will start with a fabric swap each month to January. During the January 08 morning meeting we will sew up the scrappy quilt. If you want to join the swap meet please follow the instructions below:
Please pre-wash, press and use 100% quality cotton material. Please cut the salvaged edge before cutting.
1. Cut 50-----6 inch squares place in a zip lock bag with your name on the bag.
2. Cut 50 strips-----1 1/2 inch by 8 1/2 inch strip place in a zip lock bag with your name on the bag.
3. Color of the month. September-green toned fabric October---------gold/yellow fabric November-----blue fabric December-----red/pink fabric January---light colored fabric
4 Place your zip lock bags on the sign in table. Be sure your name is on your bag
5. During the meeting your squares will be swapped and returned to you.
252 squares will make a throw size version 440 will make a 90 1/2 x 99 1/2 size quilt.

LOTTERY BLOCK SWAP This month we will do a fat quarter swap. Bring in a fall theme quarter
Comfort Quilts are folded and in a clear plastic bag in the back hall at the Masonic Temple. There is a blank signature label on each quilt so that they are ready to go when we need them for our members. There are 4 quilts ready for members at this time.
Wow you Ladies sure have been busy sewing up comfort blocks! Several have been returned and are ready to be put together! Please return your blocks to Laurie in September! In January we will sew them up

Workshops and Programs
All Groups are responsible for helping the Program/ Workshop gal to unload and reload her things, luncheon and clean up in kitchen. They also need to have the tables and chairs put away or around the tables at the end of day. This group should also help man the sign in table. For New Members and Visitors to enjoy their first visits they need to be guided and that cannot happen if no one is at the sign in table. Thank you to everyone!
The Temple is open at 8 AM. That means one or two gals of your group need to be at the Temple no later than 8:00-:15 AM to help out. If you cannot be at the Temple in the morning let your group know or have someone there in your place. If you have to leave early let your group know! The more we work together the more fun we will have!

All members are welcome to come and sell any sewing related items on Saturday. These items can be quilts, crafts, fabrics, doilies, towels, embroidery or scissors or whatever you wish to sell as long as it is sewing related. Tables are free. Tables will be set up the night before. You may want to bring covers for your tables as sometimes they are not skirted. Please let me know how many tables you will need by our next meeting on the 12th. You may call me if you cannot be at meeting.
You will be responsible for your own sales. I have the temporary tax numbers available for you now and will hand them out to you at our next meeting if you wish to have it that day or on the selling day.

A Quilt Show meeting will be announced on that day also. Each committee has a booklet to use as a guide to that particular job. All jobs can and should be done by more than one person. We all need to work together!
The quilt show is only 9 months away! It may seem like a long time till our show, but time flys when you are busy! We need everyone to help out in all areas to make the show a success. We have had many wonderful shows and want to put on another great one!

All members are welcome to come and sell any sewing related items on Saturday. These items can be quilts, crafts, fabrics, doilies, towels, embroidery or scissors or whatever you wish to sell as long as it is sewing related. Tables are free. Tables will be set up the night before. You may want to bring covers for your tables as sometimes they are not skirted. Please let me know how many tables you will need by our next meeting on the 12th. You may call me if you cannot be at meeting.
You will be responsible for your own sales. I have the temporary tax numbers available for you now and will hand them out to you at our next meeting if you wish to have it that day or on the selling day.

There will be a committees’ sign up sheet at the welcome table in September. Please sign up your name to the committee/s that you would like to help in. A Quilt Show meeting will be announced on that day also. Each committee has a booklet to use as a guide to that particular job. All jobs can and should be done by more than one person. We all need to work together!
The quilt show is only 9 months away! It may seem like a long time till our show, but time flys when you are busy! We need everyone to help out in all areas to make the show a success. We have had many wonderful shows and want to put on another great one!
Note to new members: If you don’t know where you would like to help just ask any of the ‘old’, ok I mean, ‘seasoned’ members for assistance or Carlene. There is a place for you!

A wonderful backing was purchased at 30% from Saintly Stitches in St. Ansgar. A black batting has been donated by Bev Humphrey. We will need hand quilters soon. Please say yes when asked. The quilt will be displayed finished or not at the September Fiber Arts Festival at South Bridge Mall in Mason City on Sept. 29th. We need help to sell tickets that day.

We did some interesting things and had some interesting guests. Without everyone working together as groups it would not have happened. Remember Lucille Keeling who brought all those wonderful hand appliquéd/quilted quilts for a program last spring? Well she has invited us to their guild for a fun day of learning new techniques in quilting!

Dear Quilters,
Sisters, Cathy Audley and Sue Chaffee of Kansas are coming to our guild Aug 20th, 2007 to teach two workshops-Bobbin-work and Machine Trupunto. Classes are being offered to non-members as long as there are openings after Aug 1. Cost for nom-members is $35. Classes are from 9am – 3pm at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church-4000 Hudson Road, Cedar Falls (one mile south of UNI dome). Bring sack lunch or go out and get something. We furnish morning coffee and treats. Plan to stay for our evening meeting and hear the sister lecture ‘Sister Speak’. To reserve your spot please contact: Lucille Keeling 1-319-987-2051.
If anyone is interested to attend these classes, the supply list is available at the sign in table at meeting.
To prevent your quilt label from being removed easily, quilt right through it!
To make your thimble fit better, give it a shot of warm breath!
A pillow on your lap may help you keep a more comfortable when hand piecing, appliquéing or quilting your project! This is the way I learned to quilt from my Mom!
Instead of wrapping paper use fabric!
Workshops and Programs
All Groups are responsible for helping the Program/ Workshop gal to unload and reload her things, luncheon and clean up in kitchen. They also need to have the tables and chairs put away or around the tables at the end of day.
This group should also help man the sign in table. For New Members and Visitors to enjoy their first visits they need to be guided and that cannot happen if no one is at the sign in table.
The Temple is open at 8 AM. That means one or two gals of your group need to be at the Temple no later than 8:00-:15 AM to help out. If you cannot be at the Temple in the morning let your groups know or have someone there in your place. If you have to leave early let your group know! The more we work together the more fun we will have!

A Blast From the Past! The next two pages of the newsletter will take you back in time to the year 1990. The article was written by deceased member, Helen Fistler. A pillow on your lap may help you keep a more comfortable when hand piecing, appliquéing or quilting your project! This is the way I learned to quilt from my Mom!
Instead of wrapping paper use fabric!
Workshops and Programs
All Groups are responsible for helping the Program/ Workshop gal to unload and reload her things, luncheon and clean up in kitchen. They also need to have the tables and chairs put away or around the tables at the end of day.
This group should also help man the sign in table. For New Members and Visitors to enjoy their first visits they need to be guided and that cannot happen if no one is at the sign in table.
The Temple is open at 8 AM. That means one or two gals of your group need to be at the Temple no later than 8:00-:15 AM to help out. If you cannot be at the Temple in the morning let your groups know or have someone there in your place. If you have to leave early let your group know! The more we work together the more fun we will have!

A Blast From the Past! The next two pages of the newsletter will take you back in time to the year 1990. The article was written by deceased member, Helen Fistler. Helen was a very pleasant person and a talented quilter! This is her rendition of the beginnings of our Quilt Guild. Cassie Kloberdanz has also written a history of the guild’s beginnings and it is included in our cook book. Hope you all enjoy the Blast From the Past!
