Potluck at noon with general meeting at 1PM

Afternoon program will be a wonderful Trunk Show presented by Dixie Schaer! You don’t want to miss this, girls!

Workshop Alternative
If you don’t care to take the morning workshop but want to come anyway, we have a project for you. You don’t need any sewing supplies! We have several boxes of fabrics that need to be sorted though for future projects. If you would like to help out organizing the fabrics by color or whatever we would greatly appreciate your time. This way you can still come and enjoy good cheer and get to play with fabrics! See you all there

Newsletter
With the economy continuing to be stressful on our pocket books we need to make changes to help keep the costs of our newsletter at a minimum. For those of you who have computers, we want you to be thinking of receiving the newsletter by e-mail, starting next quilt year in August. If you choose to do so you will still be able to receive patterns via a ‘link’ that will appear in your e-newsletter. You will also be able to print your all/or parts of your e-newsletter each month.
For those of you who still wish to receive the newsletter by ‘snail mail’ you are certainly welcome to do so. I will need 12 self addressed and stamped envelopes from you by August or September meeting. We want everyone to know what is going on and not miss a thing! We have some fun programs and workshops being worked on now for next year!
If you do not wish to receive your newsletter in either fashion you can read it on our North Iowa Quilters Guild website at niqg.org. However you will not be able to see certain items such as our Treasurer’s report. The choice is up to you. Please let me know by August Picnic or no later than September. Thank you everyone for your cooperation! Jenny

Chinese Auction
The Chinese Auction total is now $808.65! Thanks to everyone! This has been an enjoyable fund raiser! New items will be ready this month! Check it out!

Lottery block!
The lottery block this month is very simple! It is called the Alaska Homestead. It is comprised of a ‘2 patch and a half square triangle’. A sample of a table runner is included with the pattern. Make as many as you want! The more you make the better your chances of winning all of them! We wish to thank Marcia Hohn for her use of her patterns.
Board Meeting will be held on May 19th, 2009 at the Senior Center in Mason.
All NIQG members are welcome
to attend any meetings.

2009 Naughty Row by Row Quilt- theme will be ‘HOME’
First round of the ‘theme home’ is in the bag! The second ‘coffee cup’ row should be done. The third row is ‘watering cans and the fourth is ‘tulips’. The 5th row is ‘hearts’. These should be completed. Next you will be handing your bag to the name listed for MAY. The 6th pattern will be available for you to use or not to use! It is a flying goose or a friendship block! Remember to work on the project as if it were your own quilt. NOTE: PLEASE MAKE ARRANGEMENTS WITH THE PERSON YOU ARE TO PASS YOUR BAG TO IF YOU CANNOT MAKE IT TO GUILD MEETING! It just isn’t fair to the person who has to wait and then hurry up her row. THANKS!
We will be revealing all the rows at our August Picnic! Pictures will be taken of your rows if you wish. You then have until November to finish your quilts to be qualified for prizes! The categories will be determined later.
Now go have some fun girls!

Hooked on Tuesday Quilters (HOTQ’S)
Everyone is invited to come on Tuesdays at the Senior Center to use the tables for sewing, basting quilts or just come and sit ‘n’ sew a project. There are tables raised for basting or cutting out quilts. There are sewing machines available to use along with rotary cutters and mats. It costs nothing to come. However if you plan on staying for lunch you must call at least one day ahead to get your name on the list for eating. They have really nice home cooked meals that are served Monday thru Friday. The costs of the meals are $3 or $3.50 or whatever you can afford. Very worthwhile! Plus it is a pleasant place to come visit with friends or if you need help with a project, there is sure to be someone there who can help you! Come any Tuesday!
2010 North Iowa Quilters Guild Quilt Show
The tentative dates will be April 17th and18th, or April 24th and 25th, 2010. Newman High is our best and least expensive place to hold our show.

Bus Trip to Des Moines
AQS will again be in Des Moines this year on October 28-31 at the Iowa Events Center! The North Iowa Quilters Guild will be hosting a bus trip to the show. More details to follow as arrangements are made.

Habitat for Humanity
A quilt was given to the family of Kathy Doeden and her 2 sons, Brandon 20-has ataxia (a muscle disorder) and Nathan 18 who is wheel chair bound with spinal bifida. The family will move in the last weekend of April. This is our 36th quilt (3 given to one family) donated to Habitat in the north Iowa area.

These families work very hard to build these homes along with family and friends and many volunteers. The quilts are very much appreciated and many of them hang in the homes for display.

Pet Peeves
I have several things that just bug me when it comes to quilting! But don’t get me wrong! My passion in life is Quilting! Without it, life would be so incredibly dull!
· I put fusible side up by mistake and put my hot iron right on it!
· Can hardly clean off the fusible that is now adhered to my iron bottom!
· I had the right side of fabric up when ironing fusible to it!
· Now that fused fabric is shot!
· Thinking of turning back to basic ‘needle turn method’!
· Boy it takes a much longer time to ‘needle turn’!
· Binding!
· Not having enough fabric in my stash!
· Basting! Necessary but seems like a waste of time!
· Not enough hours in the day to quilt!
· Not enough fabric in my stash!
· Did I mention not enough fabric in my stash?!
· Not being able to go to every quilt shop in America!
· And last but not least-not having enough fabric in my stash!
